This week, I was lucky to have some time to chat with Lauren McDermott from our Accounts Receivable department at Calibre One.
I enjoyed learning about her career path, her love of camping, and all about her family and pets. I hope you enjoy getting to know Lauren as well. Here is our interview.
What do you do for Calibre One?
I work in the finance team where my role is Accounts Receivable. This involves invoicing the customers and then following up on payments. I have worked for Calibre One for 14 years and have had a couple of positions in that time originally starting as a technician in the workshop, where I moved into the direct support team and later onto Managing the Direct Support Team. But after maternity leave I have come back part time and enjoy the change in roles.
How did you get interested in your field?
When I was at school I found it interesting playing with the computers in IT so thought it was something I’d like to pursue.
What were you doing before Calibre One?
Before I worked at Calibre One I finished up Year 12 and went onto complete my Diploma in Network Engineering at TAFE while working as a casual for Blockbuster Video.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
My typical work day would be getting a cup of tea and jumping straight into the list of invoices to process, running off reports and calling customers to follow up on overdue invoices.
What is your favourite part about working at Calibre One?
Favourite part of my job would be the relationships with the customers and our staff.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy heading up the river, and camping/ 4WD, we have been up to Alice Springs and around the Red centre Loop and our latest adventure was the Oodnadatta track up to Mt Dare and Dalhousie springs.
Tell us about your home life
I have been married to my husband Brad for 10 years and we have two beautiful children: Ella who is 6 and Riley who is 2.
We have a dog called Belle a turtle called Tiddles and a couple of fish.
Do you play or watch any sports?
Ha, no. Sadly, my sporting career has been placed on hold after having a Knee Recon after a touch footy incident, but I do enjoy watching Rugby.
What type of music do you like? Do you play any instruments?
I like a wide range of music ranging from the music my dad brought up listening to like The WHO and Iron Maiden to the top 100’s! I used to play the electric guitar but haven’t picked it up in years.
What does a typical weekend look like for you?
A typical weekend would consist of spending time with the family and catching up with friends.
What was your favourite place to travel, and what’s your dream travel location?
I love travelling around Australia, but I can’t go past Thailand!! Dream holiday locations are anywhere warm with cheap cocktails!
